Google Vlog #03 - Watch your language!

Here we are with Vlog #03. Here's a tiny but important tip if you don't want Google to think you are in a different continent!

Hi my name is Clive Loseby from Access by Design and I'm talking to you today about 20 things you need to know about your website and Google in 2017.

Number 3 Watching your language!

If you right-click on your webpage and look at these command that says view source you'll see an awful lot of code and it will be very confusing.

Don't worry about it but look at it near the top you will see this little tag that says lang= and that is telling Google what is called the locale about your website is. Now most people have websites written in WordPress, most people use themes that they bought from Theme Forest or something like that and the web designers just slapped them on and put them up.

Because the US is the biggest market they all tend to default to the US setting, so what you're trying to tell Google is that actually you are in America where actually have your business is over here!

It's a tiny thing but it's actually quite an important thing and it's reaso nably easy to change. What you should say is Lang="en" or Lang="en-GB" as you can see on this diagram here.

That's my tip for today! If you'd like a free review of your website, please get in touch. Thank you.
