Is this an acceptable Cookie Banner?

on January 20, 2022 at 2:35pm |Updated on April 22, 2022 at 8:51pm

Banner with statement, a stop sign and a wheelchair sign with a red cross on it The image is of a stop sign, a wheelchair sign with a cross through it. The text reads "This website is for people who are not disabled. Click here to confirm you are not disabled before entering this website.

Whether you think this is acceptable or not, this is the Cookie Banner that exists on countless websites across the world.

Websites that are complying with the law on data privacy and yet are, at the same time, preventing disabled people from accessing their website as a consequence.

The only way we can stop this blatant discrimination is by changing the law to how it was a few years ago. It is not even a major change, it is just a tweak but unless I get your signature today, it is not going to happen.

I have a petition before the UK Parliament so, if you are registered to vote in the UK, please support it. Whether you are in the UK or not, please share this for the benefit of others that you know.

This one simple act will lead to making the web a more accessible place for disabled people everywhere.

Thank you
