Hi my name is Clive Loseby, I am from Access by Design.

I'm talking to you today about 20 things that you need to know about your website and Google in 2017.

Today's tip is number 7. Google loves HTML5!

HTML5 is a way of designing web pages that has been around since January 2011 Have a look at this picture...

In the old days before HTML5, Google had no way of knowing which text was more important on here, so you've got the navigation at the top, the contact information You've got some information over on the right-hand side Information down in the footer and then the main block of text. Google views all of that equally and the only way to to help Google was to use what are called meta tags to help Google make sense of what is on the page.

With HTML5 as we can see on this tag here actually we can do a lot more with it because we can say to Google: "this is a header area don't look at this, that's the sidebar don't look at this, this is a footer area, don't look at this just look at this main content on the page", just like you or I naturally would when looking at a web page.

Doing this will make a fundamental difference to how Google views your website and considering that HTML5 has been around for over six or seven years you really need to have it.

That is my tip for today, If you would like to have a free review of your website please do get in touch Thank you.
